Gary Goodman

Chief Executive Officer

Gary Goodman is the founder and CEO of Goodman Realty Group.  Over the last 40 years, his companies have designed, developed, owned, managed and leased over 7 million square feet of commercial real estate across the country. He is a respected civic leader and has received many awards for his commitment to community-oriented development. He is a recognized national authority on sustainable planning and construction with projects that have set new standards for environmental responsibility.

During the 1970s the Goodman family business was one of the ten largest owners of retail strip shopping centers in the United States. In the 1980s Mr. Goodman became a leader in the redevelopment of Chicago’s River North, a largely abandoned industrial district north of downtown. After developing a series of office and retail mixed-use developments, the city, in its annual “People Who Shape Chicago” competition awarded Mr. Goodman the title of the city’s “Renovator of the Year.”

Mr. Goodman’s passion for sustainable, urban redevelopment has continued. More recently, Mr. Goodman has undertaken the 30 million dollar restoration of the only remaining historic hotel in Albuquerque. That hotel, originally built by Conrad Hilton, is now on Conde Nast’s list of top 100 hotels of the world. It is also the most sustainable historic hotel renovation in the nation.

Goodman’s company also developed one of the Southwest’s premier office campuses, One Sun Plaza, which was named Best Building of 2001 by Southwest Contractor Magazine.

For his work in the state, The New Mexico Business Weekly has named Mr. Goodman the number one real estate developer in the state and the top CEO in the real estate industry. The mayor has also presented to Mr. Goodman the city’s prestigious Key to the City award. The Leadership Albuquerque Alumni Association has presented Mr. Goodman its Community Leadership Award.

Currently, Mr. Goodman is completing the trendsetting 2 million square foot, mixed-use development, Winrock Town Center. Aside from creating over a million square feet of retail space, 750 residential units, 100,000 square feet of office space and a 2-acre park, the project produces food crops that equal a 30-acre farm, recycles its own water and produces much of its own electricity.

Because of Mr. Goodman and his company’s extensive experience in community planning, sustainable design and mixed-use development, Goodman Realty Group has been named master developer for Innovate ABQ, the city’s new Innovation District.  Innovate ABQ is a partnership between the city, the University of New Mexico and various public and private entities.

Goodman’s environmental and community endeavors carry over into his charitable work.  Mr. Goodman is a director of his family foundation.  He has supported over 100 charitable organizations and activities.  He is a founder and major supporter of the Cebrin Goodman Youth Leadership and the Environment program that teaches over 10,000 middle and high school students the importance of community involvement, science and environmental stewardship.

Mr. Goodman received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin and did graduate work in architecture at the University of Illinois. He has three children and two grandchildren. When he’s not working, Mr. Goodman can be found kiteboarding, skiing, building furniture, mountain biking with his two dogs or riding his horses.
